Abstract
434,322. Weaving wire fabrics. KLEMM, W., Orla, Neustadt, Germany. Jan. 15, 1935, No. 1371. [Classes 142 (i) and 142 (ii)] The wire from a reel or other supply 2 passes around a tensioning device comprising a floating roller 4 carried by an arm 40 on a spring-controlled lever 41 thence to straightening rollers 7, 8 and to a spring-controlled clamp 10 on a lever 12 pivoted to an arm 6. It is carried thereby to the centre of the shed and is delivered to a clamp 24 on an arm 20, whereby it is taken from the centre to the opposite side of the shed, the arms 6, 20 being reciprocated towards and from each other, and the tensioning device 4 ensuring a constant tension irrespective of variations in the speed of movement of the arms 6, 20 so that the wire may be properly gripped by the clamp 10. The lever 12 is provided with an adjustable stop, and the wire passes from the clamp 10, which only grips it on the inward movement of the arms, to a spring controlled guide 16 having a conical front end 19. At the end of the inward movement of the arms 6, 20 the guide 16 enters a conical recess 27 in the arm 20, moving against the action of its spring, and the wire is pushed under the toothed gravity clamp 24, which is pivoted to a lever 22 furnished with an adjustable stop 25 and acted upon by a spring. When the arms move inwards a lever 30 is struck by a fixed abutment 31, the lever is rocked and a draw bar 28 is actuated to raise the clamp 24, a spring 32 afterwards withdrawing. When the arms move outwards, the abutment 31 is struck by a spring-controlled pivoted trip head 33 which yields. At the end of the outward movement, a roller 36 on a member pivoted to the arm 20 and draw bar 28 is struck by an adjustable stop 39, whereby the bar 28 is again actuated to lift the clamp 24 and release the wire which is cut by shears 69, 70. If the delivery of the wire should be retarded, the pulley 4 moves to the position shown in chain lines, the lever 41 strikes a lever 46 and by means of lever mechanism 47, 48, 49 stops the loom. If the wire is delivered too freely an arm 50 on the lever 41 is pressed against a ring 52 and the reel is braked. In a modification, the wire passes through a straightening and tensioning device 54, Fig. 5, to crimping wheels 55, thence to a tensioning device 56, 57, 58 which acts to stop the loom through the lever mechanism 60, 62, 63 in case the feed device fails to deliver sufficient wire, whereas, if too much wire is fed, the lever 59 carrying the pulley 57 strikes a lever 64, and a rod 61 is actuated whereby the feeding or crimping device is rendered inoperative. If thick wire is used this may be fed into a container 66 and be cut off at regular intervals by shears 67. The cut wires are dropped out of the container and inserted into the shed by the arms 6. A further modification is described, wherein the wire passes from a supply drum mounted on the lay around a guide pulley suspended between two springs. This pulley actuates devices for braking the supply drum if the wire is delivered too quickly, and also devices for stopping the loom in case the wire becomes fast on the drum.
