[Class 21] In a device for drawing off liquid from containers, e.g. beer from barrels, a hollow cork 11, Fig. 7, e.g. of rubber is employed which has a diaphragm 35 so curved that pressure within the container tends to expand the cork and increases the efficiency of the seal. For tapping, the cork is pressed into the container by a nipple 26, 25, screwed with a left-hand thread into the end of the stem 36 of the tap, the nipple entering a recess 35 in the end of the cork and engaging by a thread 26<a> with a thread 34 on the cork so that when the tap is withdrawn the cork is re-introduced into the bung-hole bush and re-seals the container. A loose metal washer 31 takes the pressure between the nipple and the cork during the reintroduction of the cork. A resilient washer 37, ensures the sealing of the connection between the tap and container before the seal of the cork is broken, and ensures the reverse effect on withdrawing the tap ; A left-hand threaded strainer 11 may also be used in the stem of the tap, and may function to adjust the size of outflow apertures 19 in the stem. A cork of the form shown in Fig. 1, with reinforcing ribs 13, may also be used, the means for reintroducing the cork being omitted.
