[Class 5 (ii)] A feeding or drinking trough 3-particularly adapted for chickens in a brooder-is supported by pins 4 resting at the bottom of slots 6 in brackets 5 projecting from the front of the brooder and a wire mesh guard flap 2, hinged on hooks 8, depends across the front of the brooder compartment reaching nearly to the bottom of the trough 3. Pins 9 extend inwardly from the end of the trough on both sides of the guard flap and by rotating the trough on its pivots the guard flap may be swung about its hinges to expose more or less of the food in the trough in accordance with the size of the birds in the brooder. One or both of the pivot pins of the trough may be screw-threaded and provided with a wing nut to clamp the trough in its adjusted position. The inner edge of the trough is provided with a lip 10 to prevent the scattering of food and filling pieces 12 are fitted at the sides of the brooder to prevent chickens escaping when the flap 2 is open. The flap 2, which may serve as the front of the brooder compartment when the trough is detached, may be held in adjusted position by a pin thereon resting in notches at the bottom of an horizontal slot formed in one of the filling pieces 12.
