Abstract

433,586. Photographic sensitive materials. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Oct. 20, 1934, No. 30120. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1933. Drawings to Specification. [Class 98 (ii)] Layers sensitized with naphthalene diazonium compounds and having an acidity or alkalinity such that no colouring matter is formed during exposure, are exposed under an original and self-development effected by the action of water only is allowed to take place. The self-development may be accelerated by heating or by an increase in the moisture content of the layer. A white background is obtained if the layer has a degree of moisture less than 1 per cent during the exposure, this being attained by drying over phosphorus pentoxide or in a stream of dry gas. In an example, the paper is soaked in a solution of diazo-2-hydroxy - naphthalene-4-sulpho-acid and anhydrous soda and dried in air. After exposure the paper is allowed to develop in the dark or developed by smoothing it under a moistened cloth at 100‹ C. The paper may be intensely dried before use. The soda may be replaced by sodium borate, sodium phosphate or sodium selenite. To obtain a negative from a positive, a short exposure may be given and, after self-development in the exposed parts has taken place, a second exposure which causes complete decomposition in the unexposed parts. Specification 391,970 is referred to.
