Abstract

433,006. Dolls combined with gramophones. TOITZ, I., 105, Hill Street, Garnethill, Glasgow. Dec. 27, 1934, No. 21826. [Class 132 (iii)] [See also Group XXXVIII] A stuffed doll or toy animal has incorporated with it a miniature gramophone provided with means for resetting the reproducer on the record disc and for retaining the reproducer on the record disc during playing. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 the doll is filled with hair, fibre, kapok, or wood-wool and is fitted with a gramophone provided with a reset control lever 5 rotatably and slidably mounted in a bracket 6, the inner end of the lever 5 being cranked and pivotally connected at 8 to the reproducer 2 carried by the tone arm 9 so that when the lever 5 is turned slightly it lifts the reproducer from the record disc and when the lever is pushed back into the body of the doll it enables the reproducer to be reset to the starting point on the record disc. A sapphire or other hard-pointed needle 1 is fitted to the reproducer 2 to eliminate changing of needles. A spring 10 connects the tone arm 9 to the base of the gramophone to enable the doll to be held in any position without slipping of the reproducer 2. When playing of the gramophone is not required the needle 1 can be inserted in a round wire slot or socket 11 in a wire stay 12 by turning the control lever 5 slightly to lift the reproducer 2 and pulling it outwards so that it is brought immediately above the socket 11. The usual stop catch and speed regulator 3 and spring winding lever 4 are fitted to the gramophone so as to be operated from the back of the doll. The lever 5 may be provided with an elbow which enables the lever to be bent downwards parallel with the body of the doll to permit throwing about of the doll without causing damage to the gramophone. The gramophone is enclosed in wire netting 14 and is carried by a circular metal base 15 and overall is fitted a linen cloth to keep out dust.
