Abstract

432,721. Plant protectors. SHAW, M. C., Arrow Cottage, Hove Park Villas, Hove, Sussex. Feb. 1, 1934, No. 3395. [Class 6 (ii)] A net for enclosing a fruit tree or the like is carried by a frame comprising horizontal members in the form of one or two substantially semicircular segments, pivotally connected to a supporting standard. This standard comprises a variable number of wooden sections 10, 11, 12 connected together by sleeves 16, the lowest section 10 being screwed into a base plate provided with projecting feet 14 and securing pegs 15. As shown, the frame consists of two metal hoops connected together by vertical struts 25, 26. Each loop comprises two semicircular members 18 pivoted on a plate 19 on one of the sleeves 16, the members 18 of the upper hoop each being provided with a diametrical stay 23. The ends of the frame members 18 are bent outwardly and connected together by a bolt 24 which may be removed to allow of the frame being opened. A support 27 is placed below the struts 25 connecting the outer ends of the upper and lower frame members 18 together. The fine-mesh net 28 may be in one or more parts. In a modification for use against a wall, parts of the base plate and hinge plates are cut away and each horizontal frame consists of one semicircular member only.
