431,532. Making metal tubes. BAILEY, G. E., Oak House, Bankhall Lane, Hale, Cheshire, BROWNLOW, E. G., 152, Derbyshire Lane, Stretford, Manchester, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Feb. 19, 1934, No. 5485. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In making metal tubes from flat strip the edges are progressively bent while the longitudinal centre is free and unrestricted on both sides. As shown, the apparatus comprises a guide 3 for the strip 2, pairs of rollers 4, 5, 6, a guide 8, a die 7, a pair of rollers 9, a die 10, and pairs of rollers 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. The strip A shown in Fig. 2 passes to the stages B ... L in the corresponding pairs of rollers or dies shown in Fig. 1 vertically above them. The dies 7 are shown in side elevation in Fig. 4, and comprise a lower die member 19 with an aperture, which tapers in part, and the section of which, is a segment of a circle. The dies 10 are similar in shape to the dies 7, but have a smaller aperture. After leaving the rollers 15 the tube enters closing dies 17 for welding.
