Abstract
431,192. Diathermy apparatus. OTTO, W., 35, M³llerstrasse, Berlin. Dec. 22, 1933, Nos. 36139 and 36140. Convention dates, Dec. 23, 1932 and Nov. 9, 1933. [Class 81 (ii)] In electro - therapeutic apparatus arranged for ultra - short or short wave and long wave treatment alternatively the long wave treatment is obtained by using additional apparatus in conjunction with all or part of the apparatus required for short - wave treatment. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the short-wave oscillatory circuit comprises inductance 6 and condenser 7 fed via condensers 5 from a series of spark-gaps 2 and transformer 1. An auxiliary circuit consisting of condenser 3 and coils 4 is provided in the feed to the spark-gaps. The long-wave oscillatory circuit comprising inductance 9 and condensers 8 is connected between the transformer and the auxiliary, and is brought into operation by short-circuiting the coils 4 by switches 11. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the transformer 12 charges a variable condenser 13 which discharges into a circular series of spark-gaps 14. Inductances 15 are connected between the transformer and the spark-gaps and constitute together with condenser 16, an auxiliary circuit in which the self-induction is approximately the maximum value which can be used without destroying the effective of condenser 16 for preventing arcs at the spark-gaps. The short-wave treatment is applied from terminals 17 through protective condensers 18. Long wave treatment is obtained by connecting coil 19 across terminals 17, a potentiometer 21 being provided to regulate the energy applied to terminals 20. This arrangement may be fitted in a cabinet having a control for the short-wave treatment on the top and suitable terminals in front. The long-wave inductance 19 and potentiometer 21 may be fitted to these terminals or alternatively a switch may be provided to disconnect the coil 19 from condensers 18 when short-wave treatment is required.
