[Class 143] In a method of progressively weighing objects which are alternately supplied to the same weighing-member each object is brought into position above the weighing member whilst a preceding object is being weighed thereon, and thereafter by means of a carrier is automatically lowered on to the weighing member when the weighing of the preceding object has been finished. As shown, bags of flour 5 are carried step by step, upon a partitioned conveyer 4, to two cam-operated pushers 1, 2 which alternately push a bag off the conveyer and on to an adjacent carrier 20 or 21. The carriers are alternately reciprocated in a vertical direction by cams and are grid-like in form so that in their lower positions they mesh without contact with corresponding openings in the scale pan 17 and leave the bag on the pan for a weighing operation. In the highest positions of the carriers (the bag-receiving positions) the bags are clear of the scale pan. The bags are thus alternately transferred from the conveyer 4 to the scale pan and as one bag is being raised from the pan by one carrier after weighing, another bag is being lowered by the other carrier for weighing thereby avoiding idle periods in the use of the weighing scale. Pivoted walls 31 actuated by cams on the carrier rods guide the bags but swing outwardly to leave the bags free when the carriers descend. As new bags are pushed on to the carriers the weighed bags are pushed off thereby, the transfer to a conveyer 37 being completed by a cam-operated plate 40 moving in an horizontal direction. In a modification, the pushers 1, 2 are replaced by intermittently-advancing conveyers running above the carriers and provided with pinchers for gripping the bags. The bags may rest upon loose plates during the various operations to avoid wearing the bottoms of the bags.
