Abstract

430,734. Moulding pipes. BISHOP, E. H., 13, Kenilworth Street, Waverloy, near Sydney, Australia. Sept. 19, 1933, No. 25857. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 21, 1934]. [Class 87 (ii)] In pipe-making apparatus a rotatable forming core traversing from end to end of the mould is used in conjunction with a helical feeding screw terminating adjacent to the former and an arcuate sectioned mould having end plates to retain the material during moulding. Fig. 1 shows one construction in which material supplied to the hopper 6 is fed by the worm 11 through the tube 7 and delivered adjacent to the forming core 12 which is fixed on the worm shaft. The mpuld 19 is formed in three arcuate sections, and is mounted on track wheels 16 so that when the pressure of the packed material reaches a predetermined limit, it moves longitudinally over the former 12 against the action of the counterweight 23. Sliding doors 40, Figs. 1 and 4, on the end of the mould are operated by the hand lever 42 to fit tightly over the former 12 at the end of the moulding operation. The mould and pipe are run out of the machine on rollers 53 which are eccentrically mounted so that they can be raised into mouldcontacting position by worm gear 61 operated by a common hand wheel 62. The tube 7 is used as the guide for the reinforcement where such is used. The cable from the counterweight 23 is fed to a winch drum on the mould carriage which can be rotated by a hand wheel for adjusting purposes and is fitted with ratchet retaining-gear. In a modified construction, the hopper 6 and tube 7 are vibrated longitudinally by a connecting rod 68, Fig. 7, from a crank shaft 67, the shaft 8 being made a sliding fit in the hopper wall 66. A construction in which the mould is vertical instead of horizontal, also is described..
