Abstract
430,109. Dateindicators. CHARLES, A., 261, Norbury Avenue, Norbury, SMITH, E. W., and SMITH METERS, Ltd., 186, Kennington Park Road, both in London. Feb. 26, 1934, Nos. 6225/34 and 2402/35. [Class 106 (iv)] A date-indicator comprising datenumber and month-name bearing members is driven by a synchronous electric motor. The indicator may be combined with a clock driven by the same motor, in which case a cam 14, Fig. 4, rotates once in 24 hours and actuates a lever 20 carrying a pawl 26 which engages teeth on the date-number disc 5, Fig. 2. This disc is thus stepped anticlockwise and tensions a spiral spring, the disc being detained by a detent 43. On the back of the disc are four pins arranged to co-operate with a slider 32. The slider is positioned in a slot in a lever 49 to a position corresponding with the number of days in the month. In the first position, the slider is engaged by the first pin after 28 days, in the second position by the second pin after 29 days, and so on. When this engagement occurs, the lever 49 is rocked and the detent 43 released, whereupon the spiral spring returns the number disc 5 to its initial position. During the rocking of the lever 49, a pawl 38 pivoted at 40 to the lever advances the month-name sector 6. A detent 60, Fig. 3, is released by the sector 6 at the end of December and the sector then returns to its initial (January) position by gravity. A day-name disc 7 is actuated from the date-member disc by a ratchet mechanism. The position of the slider 32 is adjusted to correspond to the number of days in the month by an arm 73 actuated by a lever 80 having an end 81 engaged by a cam on the back of the month-name sector 6. A plunger 84 is carried by the number disc 5 and engages a lantern wheel 87 having a cam 88 which actuates a pawl 93 driving a ratchet wheel 95. This ratchet wheel rotates once in four years and in February of leap year a pin 98 engages the lever 80 to position the slider 32 for a 29- day month.
