Abstract
430,095. Fusible cut-outs. BULGIN, A. F., c/o A. F. Bulgin & Co., Ltd., Abbey Road, Barking, Essex, and STOTT, H. T., 17, Sylvan Avenue, Mill Hill, London. Dec. 15, 1933, No. 35351. [Class 38 (i)] In a fusible cutout of the cartridge type intended to be unaffected by current surges of short duration, the fusible element 1 is surrounded by a mass of material 4, such as granular or powdered sugar, starch or resin or mixtures of these, which liquefies under continued heating, the fusible element being thereby left without means for conducting away heat so that it quickly reaches fusion point. Pads 5 of absorbent material such as glass wool, powdered marble, &c. are provided for absorbing the material 4 when liquefied, or the tube 2 may have an absorbent lining or may itself be absorbent but with a glazed or other non-absorbent outer coating. The wire 1 is preferably of a material having a high coefficient of expansion so that on continued heating it bends and so comes into contact with a larger quantity of the filling material.
