[Class 26] In a siphon-discharge water-waste-preventer of the moving bell type, from which two different quantities of water may be discharged according as to whether a valve which is always closed when the bell is up is opened or left closed, the desired quantity is discharged upon the operation of the appropriate one of two chains &c. A bell C has a passage F closable by a rod g carrying abutments g<1>, g<2>, and projecting through a space d<1> in a pivoted operating-lever D carrying a chain E. A second chain E is carried by a lever J pivoted to the lever D at j and to a rod h<1> carrying a stirrup H. When the bell is raised by the handle E, the valve is closed and by means of the abutment g<2>, the part g<1> is raised above the lever D ; when the chain is released and the bell falls, the part g<1> is engaged by the part d<2> so that the valve opens. When the chain E<1> is pulled the lever D is also raised as before, but the stirrup H prevents the engagement of the parts g<1>, d<2> so that the rod g falls, allowing the valve to close.
