Abstract
429,414. Feeding webs. SANDT, J., Pirmasens, Germany. July 2, 1934, No. 19477. Convention date, July 1, 1933. [Class 100 (i)] [See also Groups VIII and XVII] In a container for photographic paper in roll form, having advancing and cutting devices inside the container, the cutting-device, which is automatically controlled by the advancing- device, is mounted at the opening by which lengths of cut paper leave the container. As shown, a drum 24 rotatable on a spindle mounted in a container 1 receives the roll of photographic paper 3, the paper being guided from the roll along a path 23 until the edge lies in front of a cutting-device 4, 5. Two pinions 13, 14 are continuously rotated by means of driving gear, and move in blank spaces left between the teeth on two gear-wheels 15, 16. The gears 15, 16 are rigidly mounted on the extremities of spindles 9, 10, and cam discs 11, 12, (not shown), and segmental discs 7, 8 are mounted on the other extremities of the spindles. The segmental discs 7, 8 are provided with recessed portions 30, 31 so that a higher edge on each of the discs has a circumferential length corresponding to a predetermined desired length of paper to be fed. A lever pivoted at one end between the roll of paper and the disc 8, and pivoted at the other end by a pin-and-slot connection to the movable blade 4 of the cutting-device, is provided with follower rollers which rest on the cam discs 11, 12. A tension spring holds the blade 4, and the lever, in a downward position, as shown. The gears 15, 16 are provided with pins 17, 18 adapted to be engaged by press-button members 19, 20. In operation, assuming a length of paper is to be delivered by the segmental disc 7, the member 19 is depressed, whereupon the pin 17 is engaged to rotate the gear 15 to such an extent that the rotating pinion 13 meshes therewith, and the gear 15 is rotated for substantially one revolution. The paper 3 is gripped by the segment 7 and a co-operating idler roller 21, and pushed forward out of the container through a slot 2, the blade 4 having been lifted by the cam disc 11. When the feed of the paper has ceased, the cam disc 11 allows the blade 4 to descend to cut off the length of paper. A shorter length of paper is delivered when the other press-button member 20 is depressed. Several similar containers may be arranged together and provided with a common driving arrangement for the conveying and cutting devices of each container.
