Abstract

428,796. Filters. JORGENSEN, M. VOGEL-, 24, Bulowsvej, Frederiksberg, near Copenhagen. Nov. 20, 1933, No. 32384. [Class 46] Independent vacuum filter elements, carried by a chain conveyer or endless band moving round parallel axes, project from the conveyer to an extent which is greater than their largest cross-sectional dimension. A number of filter elements 1 carried by an endless chain 2 passing round rollers 3, 4, are subjected to suction as they move through a tank 7 containing slurry or liquid to be filtered and to air pressure to discharge the cakes from the filters as they pass over a conveyer 19. Each element comprises cloth or edge-filter leaves 26, Fig. 2, tapering outwards and supported from a hollow member 25 which communicates through a valve 8 and pipes 21, 22, with flexible pipes 9, 10 which extend parallel to the chain 1 and pass with it round the rollers 3, 4. The pipe 10 is connected by a transverse pipe 30 to a casing 10<1> which can rotate on the pipe 30 and is itself connected by a flexible pipe 12 to a source of air under pressure. The pipe 9 is connected by a short pipe 31 outside of the pipe 30 with a similar casing 91 which is connected by a flexible pipe 11 to suction. As shown the pipe 11 is wound on and opens into a rotatable drum 16 having a suction connection 18. The drum acts as a liquid separator, the liquid passing therefrom to a vessel 15. The valves 8 are turned by means of fixed cams so placed that the elements are connected with the pipe 9 and placed under suction before they enter the tank 7 and are connected with the pipe 10 and subjected to air pressure for discharging the cakes as they pass over the conveyer 19. It is stated that the liquid under treatment may be sprayed over the filter elements instead of being drawn from the tank 7.
