Abstract

428,516. Photographic contact or projection printing-apparatus. BILLING, N. P., 6, Lower Regent Street, London. Nov. 3, 1933, No. 22732/34. Divided out of 428,455. [Classes 98 (i) and 98 (ii)] The apparatus comprises an exposure chamber having means for supporting the negative, a source of light within the chamber, a density wedge on the opposite side of the negative to the light source, an aperture in the wall of the chamber through which the wedge can be viewed, and means to receive a sheet of sensitive material between the negative and the density wedge. For contact printing the apparatus consists of a cylindrical chamber 10 having an electric lamp 18 and reflector 17 mounted therein, a sheet of plain or ground glass 14 to carry the negative and sensitive material, closing the top of the chamber, and a conical cover 11 having a series of spaced diffusing plates 24 and a density wedge 25 consisting of a radial series of portions of increasing density. The wedge is viewed through an aperture provided with a lens 28 in the top of the cover. A mask 29 of thin metal may be inserted between the plate 14 and the cover. The lamp 18 is controlled by a push-button switch 23. The projection printing apparatus is similarly constructed, but the negative is carried in a holder within the chamber, and projection and condensing lenses are provided. The sensitive material may be carried in a pack consisting of an enclosing envelope and a slide supporting the film, the envelope and slide having interengaging flaps forming a light-seal, the pack being formed of two or more envelopes.
