Abstract

427,104. Spring shackles ; torquerods ; pivots. TRIER, V. A., Andre Works, Victoria Gardens, Ladbroke Road, Notting Hill Gate, London. Oct. 12, 1933, No. 28175. [Class 108 (iii)] [See also Groups XXV and XXXI] One end of a vehicle suspension spring, spring shackle, or torque-rod is pivotally connected to the vehicle frame, or chassis member, by means of a coupling - member which has a pivotal connection with the spring &c., and a non-pivotal connection with the frame &c., the latter connection comprising at least one rubber joint of the rubber-separated, pin-and-socket type, the axis of which lies in a vertical plane normal to the axis of the pivotal connection. As shown in Fig. 1, a bracket B<1> secured to the vehicle frame has a socket B<4> and lugs B<2> which support the coupling-member C<3> by means of a pin C4 on the member and by a bolt B<3> respectively. The pin is surrounded by a sleeve C<5> connected to the socket B' by a rubber bush C<6> and the bolt B<3> is similarly mounted. The shackle E or spring E<1> is pivoted by a metal-to-metal or rubber bush connection to the coupling- member. In a second construction, Fig. 4, the vehicle frame is formed with a vertical socket A<2> in which is mounted by means of a compressed rubber bush F<3> and sleeve F<2>, a pin F<1> 1 on a coupling member F which is forked to receive a pin G for pivotally connecting it through a compressed rubber bush to the end of the spring G<1>. In a modification, Fig. 8, the socket K<1> is formed in a bracket secured to the vehicle frame and the coupling member L is elongated so as to be additionally pivoted by means of a rubber bush connection between two lugs K<2> on the bracket. In a further modification, Fig. 10, the coupling member N<2> has two sockets connected through compressed rubber bush connections to bolts N, N<1> arranged at right-angles to each other. Fig. 11 shows a further construction in which the coupling member P<1> has pins P engaging, through compressed rubber bush connections, aligned sockets O<1> on a bracket O, the shackle P<2> of the spring P3 having a similar pivotal connection with the body portion of the coupling member. In the construction shown in Fig. 13, pins R supporting a forked coupling member R<1> have rubber connections with parallel sockets Q<1> in a bracket Q. Fig. 14 shows the invention applied to a torque rod S the coupling member T having upper and lower parallel sockets in which bolts T<1>, secured to a transverse member A' of the vehicle frame A<8>, are mounted by rubber connections, a ball T<2> at the bottom of the member T engaging a spherical socket in the rod S. A mounting, similar to that shown in Fig. 16, but in which the ball is replaced by a pivot pin for supporting a spring or spring shackle, is also shown. The Provisional Specification comprises also a construction in which the socket B<4>, Fig. 1, is replaced by two lugs arranged similarly to the lugs B2.
