Abstract

426,685. Switching systems for motorvehicle lamps. EVANS, C. J., and EVANS, S. C., 99, London Road North, Lowestoft. Nov. 16, 1933, No. 12579/34. Divided out of 412,604. [Class 38 (iv)] [See also Group XXXVIII] On a vehicle provided with normal and reverse lighting systems, either of which can be used at will, an alarm or signal is operated when the lighting is reversed, or when the vehicle travels forwards with the lighting reversed, and may be operated when reversing with the lighting normal, the arrangement being such that the reverse lights can be brought into operation only by the actuation of a manually or pedestrially operated switch. In the forms shown, the normal lighting is represented by the lamps 149, 150 and the reverse by 152, 153 but additional lamps may be included in both circuits As shown in Fig. 27 the signal lamp 148 is illuminated when the reverse lights are brought into operation by turning the switch contact 81 to the left, except when the plunger switch 109 is opened, the switch 109 being actuated by the reverse gear mechanism. As shown in Fig. 31, operation of the forward gear closes plunger switch 170 and the lamp 148 is thereby illuminated if switch contact 60 is thrown left to render the reverse lighting operative and this lamp will also be illuminated if contact 60 is thrown right and the plunger switch 171 is closed by the engagement of reverse gear. If contact 162 of switch 161 engages contact 164, front 151 or rear headlights 160 will light according to the position of switch contact 61. In a modified form the lamp 148 is on whenever the reverse lights are on or it may be disconnected when reverse gear is engaged, and in place of or in addition to a lamp an audible indicator may be operated. The rotary switches of which the contacts 60, 61, 81, 162 form part, are hand or foot operated and may also control the battery or the headlight dipping-mechanism.
