Abstract

426,677. Heating feedwater. SPARKS, C. H., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London. Jan. 26, 1934, No. 2672. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (iii)] Economizers or feedwaterheaters are built up of elements each consisting of pairs of tubes connected by bends and provided with finned - sleeves 2 of cast iron and formed in two parts adapted to be clamped on to the elements by studs 12, Fig. 3. The tubes are coated with a cement e.g. of carborundum or graphite and water-glass, glycerine and/or lubricating oil, before the application of the sleeves, the parts of which are provided with grooves for the accommodation of excess cement. The end sleeves of each element are formed with rectangular supporting flanges 15, and the spaces between the adjacent flanges are filled with removable steel pressings 16 so that the elements may be readily replaced.
