Abstract
425,494. Narrow-ware looms. HAYWOOD, H., Steeple Grange, Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Nov. 8, 1933, No. 31010. [Class 142 (ii)] A multiple shuttle narrow-ware loom having two or more superimposed shuttle races and shuttles with different colours or counts of weft is provided with a positive motion for actuating and selecting the shuttles as a component of the batten. In the construction shown, a vertically movable batten A<1>, having two shuttle races is constructed with a rack A and pinions a in each race to actuate the shuttles R and a second short rack B is geared by a pinion a<1> to the first rack to give the reverse movement thereto. Each rack is furnished with a pivoted latch G for selective engagement with a reciprocating griffe C that is slidably mounted on the beat-up arm A<2>, Fig. 2, the latches being operated by a series of fingers S disposed at the rear of the batten on a spindle g which, at its upper end, is provided with a cam shaped raceway K to receive a bowl J on the griffe. As the latter reciprocates, under the action of a crank D on the main shaft, it rocks the spindle g and moves the appropriate latch inwards to be engaged by the griffe at its next stroke. The projected latch is maintained in operative position by a pin g<1> thereon engaging the inner face of a slotted panel M, vertical end slots n, n<1> being formed at the ends of each narrow slot N to permit the pin to pass from one side of the panel to the other under the action of a spring g<2> or a selector finger S. The batten is raised automatically at each beatup by a spring controlled ramp P and there - after held in raised position or lowered according to the position of a Jacquard controlled ramp catch p. A modification shows a four tier shuttle batten having the racks A, B disposed below the shuttle races, the long racks extending the length of the batten and being operatively connected to the shuttles by pinions carried by upright concentric spindles.
