Abstract

Prints on paper are obtained by means of spirit inks containing ethyl cellulose and a spirit-soluble colouring-material, and in addition, if desired, a spirit-soluble adhesive such as shellac, an uncoloured pigment such as titanium dioxide, and an additional solvent such as methylcyclohexanol acetate or methylcyclohexanone. Examples of colouring-materials specified are Rotor Green and Rotor Blue B Rotor Violet BG, Victoria Blue R, Duranol Orange G, Duranol Violet 2R, Duranol Brilliant Violet B, Dispersol Fast Yellow A, Dispersol Fast Red A, Dispersol Fast Orange B. Specification 284,999, [Class 15 (ii)], is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification methyl, propyl, butyl and glycol celluloses, and inorganic pigments or lakes prepared from insoluble azo dyestuffs can be used. The spirit-soluble colour and the cellulose ether may be mixed in the dry state and subsequently dissolved in spirit. The samples furnished under Sect. 2 (5) show (a) prints on paper with an ordinary spirit ink, the paper being subsequently waxed and mounted on a white and back background respectively; (b) similar prints with an ink containing dye, shellac, methylated spirit, ethyl cellulose, titanium dioxide, and methylcyclohexanol acetate; (c) a print on brown paper with the ink used in sample (b); (d) a similar print without the titanium dioxide in the ink; (e) prints on paper with a spirit solution of dye; (f) similar prints with a spirit solution of dye and ethyl cellulose; (g) a print on brown paper with a spirit solution of a dye; and (h) a similar print with an ink containing a small amount of dye with the addition of ethyl cellulose.
