[Class 5 (i)] [See also Group II] Potatoes are fed to a chipping machine comprising a hollow rotor 11, such as that described in Specification 379,800, by means of a substantially V-shaped trough 13 in which a flap 13, pivoted at 17 and cut away at 19, is moved to and fro by the coaction of a cam surface 15 on the rotor and a roller 21 secured to the flap. The rotor may comprise a flange 12 which may be provided with an internal, helical rib 22: at the inner end of the flange, the rib 22 terminates in a circular rib 23 and, as it approaches the outer end, the rib 22 may decrease in depth.-
