Abstract

424,667. Directing vehicle lamps. WHEATLEY, C. W. C., Eversley, Frant Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Jan. 15, 1934, No. 1375. [Class 75 (iii)] In means for directing a headlight from the steering-gear, the headlight 10 is carried by a rotatable cylindrical permanent magnet 9 surrounding a fixed electromagnet 3, the current through which is controlled by a variable resistance operatively associated with the steering gear. The electromagnet 3 is enclosed in a brass &c., shell 4 and comprises a laminated core 2 widened at the ends to form polepieces which are normally spaced angularly from the poles of the magnet 9. As shown, the leads 23, 24 are connected to a resistance 22 and through a battery 21 to a rotatable contact arm 25, mounted on or linked to the steering pillar, so that the headlight is rotated in one direction of steering only against the action of an adjustable return spring 17. A lug 18 forms an abutment for the spring and co-operates with a projection 19 on the rotor cover 15 for locating the headlight in the normal position. The other headlight may be rotated in the opposite direction of steering by means of a resistance 26. Alternatively, the resistances may be straight, slidable contacts being actuated by a cable, &c., from the steering arm or track rod. Either or both headlights may be adapted to be rotated in both directions of steering.
