[Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (iii)] In electric battery lamps of the kind wherein the lamp bulb is arranged within a casing provided with a lens and can be turned into various positions relatively to the casing to vary the direction of its rays, the lamp bulb 25, Figs. 2 and 4, is pivotally mounted and can be swung either to direct light through an unsilvered or apertured portion 13 of a mirror 12 forming one side of the casing 10, in order to illuminate the face of the user, or through a lens 11 in the end of the casing. The mirror may be provided with a protecting-cover or slide 14 which can be removed and used as a rear strut to support the device upon a table or other support, notches 15 being provided in the rear of the case to engage one end of the cover 14. The lamp holder 23, with reflector 24, is mounted upon a rotatable spindle 21 provided with an external operating knob 22. A transverse insulating partition 16 supports the battery 17 and carries terminals 18, 19 connected to metal contact strips 26, 29. The strip 26 is of such shape that it makes contact with the centre contact of the bulb when the latter is in either of its two positions at rightangles to one another, while the strip 29 co-operates with a cam 30 which is fixed on shaft 21 and arranged to hold the latter in any one of three positions, viz. the two illuminating positions and an intermediate " off " position. In a modification the supporting-strut may comprise a pair of legs pivoted on the back of the casing and preferably telescopic or adjustable. In another modification the inner surface of the shutter 14 is also formed as a mirror.
