L., Widney Works, Bagot Street, Birmingham. Sept. 29, 1933, No. 26849. [Class 103 (ii)] [See also Group X] A vehicle observation device comprises an exterior member, e.g. a mirror 9 or prism, adapted to reflect or refract the rear view through an opening 6 in the side of the vehicle body to an interior member, e.g. a mirror 11 or prism, which reflects or refracts the view to the driver through an opening 17 or transparent or translucent panel 18 in the instrument board 8. By providing a device on each side of the vehicle two rear views may be transmitted to the driver or driver and passenger through a single opening or through two openings in the instrument board. As shown, a laterally-projecting cowl 7 surrounds the opening 6 and houses the mirror 9, while a sheet-metal casing 10 houses the mirror 11, both mirrors being universallyadjustable on ball-joints or angularly-adjustable on vertical pins 13. The cowl 7 and casing 10 form an extractor ventilator controllable by a flap 20 covering an opening 21 in the casing 10, the flap being fixed to a pin 22 extending through the instrument board and rotatable by the driver. Alternatively, a transparent door over the rearwardly-directed side of the cowl may be adjusted to control the ventilator. The cowl may support driving signals.
