[Class 56] [See also Groups XXXII and X] An automobile &c., windscreen com prises a piece o: toughened or tem pered glass a whicl is provided at a position correspond ing to the norma field of vision with a local protected area or sight-portion of laminated glass so that in the event of a shock to the windscreen the toughened glass disintegrates into small crystals rendering it almost completely opaque while the protected area of laminated glass remains transparent even though cracked. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, the sight-portion is formed by a sector or other shaped piece b of ordinary glass separated by a similarly-shaped sheet c of celluloid, &c., from the rear face of the windscreen proper the portion of which covered by the sheet c is protected during the tempering operation so as to be unaffected thereby.
