Abstract

Complex metal compounds of monoazo dyes are made by treating a monoazo dye capable of yielding heavy metal complex compounds and containing 2:8 - dihydroxynaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid as coupling component with an agent yielding heavy metal. In examples: (1) the dyestuff 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid --> (lime) 2:8-dioxynaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid is treated with chromium fluoride in acetic acid (reddish-grey on wool); (2)--(4) similar dyestuffs are described using as diazo components 4 - chlor - 2 - aminophenol, 2 - amino - 4 - methyl - 1 - anisole - 5 - sulphonic acid, o - anisidine, 4-chloro- or 4-methyl-2-amino-1-anisole, 2-amino-1-anisole-4-sulpho acid and the copper compound of the dyestuff using 6 - nitro - 2 - aminophenol - 4 - sulpho acid. Chroming with chromium oxide and formic acid and coppering with copper sulphate is also described. Diazo components of the benzene and naphthalene series containing hydroxy, alkoxy and carboxylic acid groups in o-position to the amino group are specified in general.
