[Classes 11 and 146 (ii)] In a method of producing illustrations of an article or design, so as to show several complementary phases of the article, &c. step by step from the outside to the interior, views showing the several phases are produced on a single sheet of material in association with registration markings, whereby the sheet may be folded into a paginal unit to bring the different phases into exact register and into proper relation with each other, as in the actual article. Drawings of the different phases are made and shaded by wash methods, and are then photographed, and half-tone or multicolour blocks are produced, from which the illustrations are printed on a single sheet. Alternatively, the illustrations may be produced directly from the photographic plates or films. In the case of a sheet showing five phases of an article, the fifth phase 1 is formed in the centre of one side of the sheet, and the others 2, 3, 4, 5, are formed on the reverse side, so that, when the sheet is folded into pages along registration markings, which may be printed on in the form of notches or slits, the pages can be lifted up one by one to show the successive phases. The pages may be out to the outlines of particular phases. In a translucent unit, suitable for advertising purposes, the different phases 12, 13, Fig. 4, are printed, preferably in colours, on one side of the sheet, and, after folding, the edges of the pages are secured together by adhesive, so that different phases of a design are revealed by reflected and by transmitted light. Diffusion sheets 14, which may be coloured, may be interposed between the various phases.
