[Class 38 (v)] [See also Groups XXIX and XI] A device for controlling an oil burner comprises an armature 3 pivoted at 3a and moved towards an electromagnet 2 by a cam 12 operated by a lever 11. The armature is held near the electromagnet by friction between the cam 12 and an adjustable inclined plate 13. This movement opens a fuel supply by opening a valve 5 or starting of a motor and may also close a switch 4 to start a blower. A thermal switch is arranged in the frame or flue and energizes the electromagnet 2 thereby attracting the armature and permitting the cam to fall to its original position. Failure of the flame causes the electromagnet to be de-energized releasing the armature closing down the burner. The thermal switch may be in series with a pressure or thermal switch in the boiler to close down the burner upon excessive temperature or pressure. A switch 15 is operated by a cam 16 on the armature and is in series with the thermal switch so that the electromagnet cannot be energized until the armature 3 is actuated by the cam 12.
