[Class 39 (iii)] [See also Groups VIII, and XXXVI] An electricallyheated flat - iron, hot-plate, kettle, cooking utensil or the like of the kind including a thick plate 10 with one or more narrow deep slots 13 in one side in which are placed flat heating elements in a metal sheath 17, has a portion of the sheath or of a packing strip 33 inserted therein projecting from the slot to facilitate removal. The heating element may comprise resistance wire 14 wound on a mica strip 15 between mica strips 16 in a thin sheath 17 of stainless or chromium-steel open at the top and with its top walls extending above the elements. The slots 13 may be U-shaped and the elements bent to fit therein, the wires being connected to terminals 29 on an insulated bar 30 and hence to terminals 19. The sheath may contain two elements and a packing strip 33 of heatresisting material to hold them in place and facilitate removal. The heating element may comprise a plate of resistance metal slotted alternately from opposite edges, the end portion being left unslotted. The slots may extend wholly or partly along and are machined in the plate, which is a chromium-nickel-iron casting.
