Abstract

419,756. Tanks. KENNEDY, J. E., 258, Riverside Drive, Manhattan, New York, U.S.A. May 29, 1933, No. 15482. Convention date, May 27, 1932. [Class 69 (i).] In a system for transporting material under suspension in a fluid, or by a fluid under pressure, embodying a container having an inlet at the top and an outlet at the bottom, and valve controlled connections with a source of fluid pressure, such as air or steam, leading into the lower portion of the container to effect an aerating or emulsifying of the material near the discharge point and into the top of the container to exert an extruding force upon the material, the air or steam supplied to the container being the sole conveying medium, closure means for the inlet opening is provided which is actuated by the pressure of the fluid in the container. The container 1, Fig. 2, is joined by a flexible connection 3 to a storage bin 2. The upper and lower parts of the container are connected by pipes 28 and 32, 33, 34, respectively, to a pipe 26 leading to a source of fluid pressure. The pipe 28 opens into a chamber on which slides a sleeve 76 depending from a spherical cap 77. This cap seals the inlet from the bin 2 when pressure is admitted through the pipe 28. A series of containers may be filled at the source of supply and mounted on railway cars, motor trucks, or scows for transportation to a distance. The inlet to such containers is closed by sealing means 87, Fig. 10, which is drawn by screw- and-nut mechanism on to a seating 88 of flexible material. A hinged dome-shaped cover 97a is provided which is secured by a padlock 101.
