Abstract
419,311. Jig-saw puzzles ; building- blocks. SCOTTISH TOYS, Ltd., and KINNAIRD, W. I., 66, Old Dalmarnock Road, Glasgow. May 16, 1933, No. 14124. [Class 132 (iii).] A jig-saw puzzle structure comprises two or more jig-saw layers, the structure having side parts of distinctive appearance. The ship shown in Fig. 1 comprises a plane base sheet A of wood and a plurality of continuous and discontinuous jig-saw strata B, C, &c., the top surface of each stratum being pictured, Fig. 2, by printing or affixing pictures, to represent internal fittings &c., and preferably having different colours or bearing different symbols. The side surfaces of the strata may be pictured, coloured or of different shape. The forecastle portion D, midship superstructure E and poop F are each composed 'of a number of jigsaw strata. Bridge fittings 2 and funnels, masts and ventilators act as pins and pass through the strata to the base sheet A, Fig. 3. The pin fittings may be formed with a collar 5 or the bridge fitting 2 could act as a collar. The pin fittings taper at their ends to obtain a frictional grip. The pieces of a stratum may be formed to interlock laterally or there may be lateral interlock only for the border pieces. Relative lateral movement between two strata can be prevented by a common piece or pieces 3, Fig. 4, or by a pin or pins 4, Fig. 5, fitting into recesses made in the two pieces. The jig-saw structure shown in Fig. 6 is built up on a base sheet H and comprises a jig-saw floor stratum K, jig-saw wall strata L with a window opening 6, a non-jig-saw span M and pins 7 which extend down through the walls into the base sheet H. A stratum may comprise a part of large dimensions and may be completed by smaller jig-saw pieces. The assembled structure can slide about on its plane base sheet or, if no plane base sheet is provided, on a jig-saw stratum formed with lateral interlock. The pieces may be cut from ply-wood or be made of composition. The assembled structure may be permanently held together by cementing, say glueing.
