Abstract
419,001. Type, matrices, &c. MERGENTHALER LINOTYPE CO., 29, Ryerson Street, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Govil, H. G.; 2116, Avenue L., Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.) May 5, 1933, No. 13193. Convention date, April 7. [Classes 100 (ii) and 100 (iii).] To enable matter to be composed in the various languages which are printed in Devanagari or similar scripts, the matrices, types, &c. of a fount are formed with incomplete and non-indicative characters, which can be joined laterally with one or more others to produce complete indicative characters, which are either identical with, or closely resemble, the characters of the Devanagari script. The fount consists of 216 characters, which are divided into groups according to their use as initial, medial, or final parts of a composite character, and one group consists of complete characters. The character impressions of the matrices or types are open at one or both sides, so as to connect with one another and form a single composite character, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The impressions are closed at the sides, when necessary, by the adjacent matrices, or by blanks or spacebands. Specification 23187/13, [Class 100 (iii)], is referred to.
