Abstract

<PICT:0418725/III/1> An apparatus for the continuous extraction of raw materials with a solvent consists of two concentric extraction chambers through which raw material is conveyed in countercurrent with the solvent. A receptacle 1 is provided with an inner concentric cylinder 2 forming extraction chambers A, B which are in communication at the bottom through a chamber C formed by a conical member 1<11>. The cylinder 2 is mounted on a hub member 5 rotated by gearing 9, and is provided with an external feeding screw 13. A second feeding screw 12 is mounted on a hollow shaft 6 which is rotated by gearing 11. The two feeding screws are thus rotatable at different speeds whereby the rate of extraction may be regulated. In operation, the raw material such as oil seeds is admitted to an opening 20 and feeding elements 24 pass the material into the annular chamber A. The material is conveyed downwards by the screw 13 to the chamber C from which it is raised by the screw 12 through the inner chamber B. Solvent is admitted through a pipe 22 to nozzles 23. Above the nozzles 23 the inclination of the screw blades is decreased whereby a slight squeezing of the extracted material is effected to remove the extract, and also prevents the fresh solvent from progressing upwards. The extract passes through openings 1<1> in the upper wall of the chamber A, which are at a lower level than the inlet nozzles 23. Extracted material passes through an opening 14 to a chamber 15 from which it is removed by rotating vanes 16 to an outlet 26. The apparatus may also be used for extracting wood bark or wood dyes.
