Abstract

418,137. Air compressors ; valves; cooling. BRISTOL PNEUMATIC TOOLS, Ltd., Causeway Works, and WESCOMBE, H. C. C., 3, College Avenue, both in Fishponds, Bristol. April 19, 1933, No. 11449. [Class 8 (i).] A valve device is installed between a compressed air supply source, e.g. a compressor, and a tyre &c. to be inflated and serves to connect the tyre &c. to the air supply, to atmosphere for deflation or to a pressure gauge. The device comprises a cup valve a rotatable on a spindle which can be held in the desired position for inflation or deflation by a lever a<1> and when released is drawn by a spring s anchored to a member s<10> fixed on the spindle, into a position where the tyre and gauge communicate. The valve a has a recess a<11> in its face by which the tyre connection a<2> leading to the space around the cup valve is made to communicate through ports a<25> with one of the air supply, atmosphere or gauge while communication with the other two is shut off by the valve face. The valve is pressed by an adjustable plate s<6> &c. and a ball s<8> on to the end of the spindle on which it slides. The compressed air is cooled by passage through a vessel b, Fig. 6, having external ribs, a partition b<5> and drain connection b<7> and an outlet valve v the seating member of which is held in place by a cap v<4> adjustably depressed by a stud carried by the cover.
