Abstract

418,135. Milling-machines. ROBERTSON, R., and KAPELLA, Ltd., 104, Stoughton Street, Leicester. April 18, 1933, No. 11259. [Class 83 (iii).] In three-dimensional engraving-machines of the kind comprising a rotary cutter and a tracer both carried by a pantograph linkage movable in an horizontal plane about a vertical axis and wherein the cutter and tracer are movable axially in the pantograph, the axial movements are controlled so as to be proportional to the distances of the axes from the pantograph axis by means of a beam pivoted about an axis intersecting the pantograph axis at right angles. A workholder G3 and a copyholder G4 are carried by slide rests G1, G2, and a rotary cutter H1 and tracer 11 are carried by a linkage F-F3 adapted to move in an horizontal plane about a vertical axis D, D1. The cutter and tracer are pivoted to slides I2, H2 movable along a counterweighted beam K pivoted about an horizontal axis J, J1 in a swivel M movable about the axis D, D1, the cutter connection comprising a ball H11 on the upper end of the cutter engaging a groove H21 in the slide H2. Each slide has three bearing surfaces K1-K3, Fig. 4, an adjustable member K6 being provided to take up wear ; the lower surfaces may be flat or in the form of rollers. To facilitate traversing the work and pattern by a series of parallel lines, a stay L, L1 is pivoted to the links F, F3, the part L1 being screwed to engage the part L and being rotated by a knob L3; a spring plunger L9 engages a toothed wheel L4 fixed to the screw.
