417,763. Explosives; blasting-detonators. BALL, C. J. P., Old House, Fulmer, Buckinghamshire.-(Assignee of Eschbach, W.; Altenratherstrasse, and Friedrich, W. ; Miilheimerstrasse, both in Troisdorf, near Cologne, Germany.) March 15, 1934, No. 8222. Convention date, May 12, 1933. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii).] Priming compositions free from fulminate of mercury are prepared by mixing a neutral, basic, or poly-basic lead salt of a nitro-body, for example lead trinitro-resorcinate or dibasic picrate, with 10 to 20 per cent of one or more of the following heavy metal azides, namely mercury, silver, and copper azides, the mixing being performed for example in aqueous emulsion. A gum arabic or resin solution may be added to bind the mixture, or the mixture may be sprayed with a resin or nitrocellulose solution as in Specification 156,429, [Class 9 (ii)]. Such a mixture may be used as a top charge on a detonator containing a main charge of nitropentaerythrite or other usual ingredient. The casing may be made of aluminium, copper, brass, or zinc. Specifications 142,823, 180,605, 192,830, and 209,157, [all in Class 9 (ii)], are referred to for priming compositions containing lead salts of nitrobodies and lead azide or fulminate of mercury.
