Abstract
417,473. Gravity-separation apparatus. FARRER, W. G., The Ridge, Warwick Road, Solihull, Warwickshire, and DAVIS, C., The Cedars, Redditch Road, King's Norton, Birmingham. May 22, 1933, No. 14691. [Class 111.] Apparatus for removing sediment and floating matter from a circular settling tank or reservoir comprises a revolving straight bridge or beam carrying scraper blades, scum plates, or other clarifying devices and crossing the tank or reservoir diametrically, being supported solely at its opposite ends which carry wheels or carriages running on rails or guide tracks and driven by an electric or other motor mounted on the beam or bridge. The beam may comprise vertical trussed side frames connected by transverse members supporting a longitudinal central platform or gangway 7. Its ends are provided with traction carriages each fitted with outer guide wheels 4 and a drive wheel 5, all running on a rail 6. The wheels 5 are mounted on shafts 8 driven in opposite directions by reduction gearing and bevel gearing 10 from an electric motor 9 which receives current through brushes engaging with slip rings carried by a stationary tubular support 15 mounted on the liquid-inlet column 17 and enclosed in a casing 18 on the beam. A depending box 19 surrounds the upper part of the column 7. Scraper blades 22 are carried by rods 23 rigidly or flexibly connected to bars 24 on the beam. They are arranged so as to displace the sludge or deposited matter towards a central outlet. The beam may also carry scum plates for directing floating matter to the outside of the tank ; or the plates 22 may be raised so as to act as scum plates when rotation of the beam is reversed. Specification 408,303 is referred to.
