Abstract

417,396. Actuating controllers. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) April 6, 1933, No. 10326. Convention date, April 6, 1932. [Class 38 (iii).] A controller is actuated in steps by electric driving means 1 under the control of a hand or foot operated lever 9 which actuates a contact 13 to release restraining means 2 to render the drive effective, and is coupled to the controller so as to be capable of operating it directly if the electric drive fails. The lever 9 first operates a switch 18, to energize the operating electromagnet 1, and also a valve-controlling electromagnet 5, the valve 2 being closed to prevent the flow of damping fluid in a tube 3 and to hold the controller stationary. When the contact 13, operated by the lever 9, leaves a contact 12 to de-energize the electromagnet 5, the valve 2 opens, and the controller is moved until it has operated the contact 13 into re-engagement with the contact 12 to energize the electromagnet 5 and reclose the valve 2. Thus the controller may be electromagnetically operated in steps, but if this drive fails a nose 16 on the lever 9 engages a disc 8 and the controller may be moved directly by the lever.
