Abstract

417,125. Bricks &c. BERRY, A. F., 125, Strand, London. March 23, 1933, No. 8829. [Class 87 (i).] To impart the desired colour to bricks, the green or semi-finished moulded or pressed bricks are coated on one or more of their surfaces, by dipping or thorough spraying, with a slurry made of water and clay, or of water, clay, and other added colouring matter, and without any further treatment of the coated surfaces, the bricks are fired. The slurry may be made from a yellow sandy clay, e.g. brick earth, which burns to a deep red colour, or it may be made from common clay mixed with a small percentage of a pigment or the like of the desired colour. In the case where the bricks are made from clay containing shale or shale oil, the clay slurry may contain a small amount of a metallic compound, e.g. an iron or manganese compound. Specification 417,124 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifcations 8418/86, 21091/94, [both in Class 87], and 369,135.
