Abstract
416,858. Boot-making machines. MILLMAN, C. H., and DOVE, G. H., Standard Works, Evington Valley Road, Leicester. March 22, 1933, Nos. 8626 and 11586. [Class 17 (i).] Removing shoes from lasts.-A shoe is supported by its last adjacent a block of rubber or like material and a single power-actuated element moved to effect pressure between the shoe and block and to move these relatively to separate the shoe from the last. Preferably, a thruster device is used comprising a piston operated by fluid supplied by an electrically driven pump. A treadle actuates a switch n driving a pump raising a piston having a piston rod c connected by a spring link to one arm of a bell crank g, Fig. 1, and by a lost motion connection to an arm f carrying a rubber block k and pivoted to the other arm of the bell crank lever. Rise of the piston first advances the rubber block to the shoe and then raises the block to remove the shoe from the last. In a modification, the pivot of the arm is fixed, and the bell-crank is linked to the last support m. In another modification, the bell-crank and lost motion device are omitted and the parts arranged so that the rubber block in its preliminary movement advances into contact with the shoe. In another modification, the block is fixed, and a bell-crank lever arranged to swing a pivoted last post to the block. In another modification, Fig. 5, a lever 1 is pivoted to the piston rod c and carries a pawl 3 actuating a cam 4 having a rise 4<c> and a concentric portion 4d engaging a roll on a spring link 6 connected by a bell-crank lever g to pivots 8 supported by pivoted links 9 carrying a yoke 10 connected by thrust bars 11 to the piston rod. The concentric portion 4d provides uniform pressure between the shoe and rubber block. The last is supported by a pivoted post m<1> adjustable towards and from the block by a pivoted rack 17. In a modification, a hand wheel and right and left screw threads are provided for this adjustment. Specification 403,050 is referred to.
