[Class 129.] A tea-pot is provided with a float supported in the infusion and adapted to lift the tea-leaves out of the infusion after a predetermined interval ; the time interval is determined by the rate of flow of water from a receptacle carried by the float, the water leaking away through a variable orifice. As shown the device comprises a perforated cylinder 8, fitting in the pot 5 and attached to a float 10, and an upper receptacle 15 fitting in the open top of the cylinder 8. The receptacle 15 has a central aperture 20, in which is rotatably mounted a tube 19, the friction of the tube in the aperture 20 being sufficient to hold the tube in any position. The bottom of the receptacle 15 is provided with a hole 21 near the aperture 20, and an overlapping flange 18 on the bottom of the tube 19 has a number of orifices 22 of varying sizes, any of which can be brought into register with the hole 21 by rotation of the tube. The tea leaves are placed on top of the float 10, and boiling water is poured on them through the tube 19 and also into the receptacle 15 round the tube 19. The weight of the water in the receptacle 15 maintains the float and tea leaves submerged in the water in the lower part of the pot to make the infusion. The water in the receptacle 15 leaks away through the apertures 21, 22, at a rate depending on the size of the aperture 22 which has been brought into register with the hole 21, and after a time the weight of the water in the receptacle is insufficient to overcome the buoyancy of the float, which therefore rises and lifts the tea leaves out of the water to prevent further drawing of the tea.
