Abstract

415,263. Making envelopes &c. GODER, T., and GODER, K., 35, Krefelderstrasse, Neuss-on-Rhine, Germany. Aug. 17, 1933, No. 23023. [Class 94 (ii).] In paper-bag &c. making machines an extraction plate is provided adapted to suck a blank from a pile and to convey it to a position for further treatment, in combination with means for folding one or more flaps of the blank on the extraction plate during its movement. The endmost of a pile of blanks 11, confined within adjustable pins 10, is sucked from the pile by the adjustable extraction plate 20, reciprocated by an eccentric 27 through adjustable links 22, 25, suction being applied at 57 through a slide-valve-like device 23, 56 and hollow link 22. The cages of the supporting plates 5 of the pins 10 are provided with rollers 12, to aid extraction of the blank, while, for the same purpose, adjustable arms 14 carry air blowing devices 15 with serrated edges 151. The extraction plate 20, furnished with suction apertures 46, 47, carries side extensions 51 capable of turning through 180‹, on to the front of the plate, and provided with suction apertures 52, 53. Gear wheels 60, fixed to the spindle of each side extension 51, engage fixed racks 66 to effect turning during the reciprocation of the plate 20. The two side flaps 68 of the extracted blank are thus folded down on to the blank, the bottomforming or tail flap 18 of which has meanwhile passed into a gap 72 in a cylinder 70. Suction on the plate 20 now ceases and the partly folded blank is fed forward by cylinders 70, 71, two creasing bars 73 effecting creasing of the nose and tail flaps by impressing in a resilient face 74 of the cylinder 71. The blank is next guided by a plate 72<1> to a gumming device 77 for gumming the tail flap, and an oscillating arm 81 feeds the partly folded blank to rolls 75, 80 to form the bottom of the envelope. Slow moving rolls 82, 83 move the partly formed envelopes over a curved plate 86 to effect overlap of the envelopes, which are then taken up by tapes 90, 95 moving against a curved support 91, the projecting closing flaps 74<1> being gummed by an open-bottom gum device 97 and dried by an electric &c. heater 100. Quick moving cylinders 102, 103, one of which may be gapped, now separate the envelopes and fold over the closing flaps 741 by suction means and an adjustable stop 114, projecting pins 116 causing correct folding. The finished envelopes may be delivered by a further suction roller device in vertical position in a delivery box.
