Abstract
412,048. Moulding pipes of concrete &c. centrifugally. INTERNATIONAL SIEGWART BEAM CO., Ltd., 2, St. Leodegarstrasse, and STUSSI, J., 24, Eschenstrasse, both in Lucerne, Switzerland. July 18, 1933, No. 20226. [Class 87 (ii).] A centrifugal moulding machine for concrete &c. pipes, masts &c. comprises a mould 7 rotated by a gear 4 driven from an electric motor through a change speed gear-box 16 and a core 15 freely rotatable in a slide 12 which may be elevated and lowered as by an hydraulic ram 11. The core carries radial paddles 23 at its upper end for discharging material supplied from a hopper 18 against the mould walls by centrifugal action. The core fits closely within the mould support, and, if circular, is driven by the friction of the mould support ; in which case a brake may be fitted to produce relative rotation between the core and mould to enable the core to smooth the inner wall of the pipe &c. The core may be of square, oval or other cross section. The material may be applied in one or more layers, the mould being accelerated after deposition of each layer to consolidate the material and to create space for the next layer. The upper end of the mould is centred by three rollers such as 8. A ring 9 and channel 10 are arranged at the upper end of the mould to receive excess water &c. expressed from the material.
