Abstract
411,861. Fusible cut-outs. HOPE, V., Upton Hall, Macclesfield, Cheshire. Oct. 13, 1932, No. 28519. [Class 38 (i).] A fuse of the type having a fusible element B that bridges two elements A of higher melting point and is enclosed in a powder filled cartridge, has the fusible element coated or surrounded with boric acid or boric anhydride E to act as a flux and to insulate the severed ends of the fuse. The acid used is preferably pyro-boric acid applied in a liquid or plastic state by dipping or mould. ing. Where a hollow fuse is employed, such as that described in Specifications 217,625 and 217,626, [both in Class 38 (i)], the fusible element B3, Fig. 14, is coated with the acid E and the interior F is filled with boric anhydride. The coating may be protected with paint or varnish or the acid may be enclosed in a small container constructed so that it can be applied to surround the fusible element.
