410,066. Testing balance of rotary bodies. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Thearle, E. L.; 1278, Dean Street, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 25, 1933, No. 5051/34. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1932. Divided on 409,989. [Class 106 (ii).] Comprises in a method of balancing rotary bodies which determines the amount and location of an unbalanced mass therein, the step of subsequently applying to the body, in a position and amount sufficient to compensate for the mass, a body of plastic material which is subsequently hardened. The material used is a self-hardening composition comprising weight and strength producing substances such as white lead and asbestos in conjunction with a binding agent such as alkyd resin. An extrusion device for this material is shown in Fig. 2. The screw cap end of the thin walled container of well known form is screwed into the end of a cylinder 61 and a plunger 64 is advanced to collapse the tube by means of a reciprocating pivoted handle 65 a spring pawl 68 on which engages a rack 66 on the plunger rod. By swinging the pawl over the dead centre, the device may be used to retract the plunger. A pivoted knife 71 serves for cutting off the strip of material the length of which is measured on a scale 72 calibrated in accordance with the scale on the vibration indicator described in Specification 409,989.
