409,933. Making flexible tubes. POWER FLEXIBLE TUBING CO., Ltd., Derby Works, Finsbury Park, London.- (Meyer-Keller et Cie, Akt.-Ges., O.; 45, Kellerstrasse, Lucerne, Switzerland.) July 12, 1933, No. 19744. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Corrugating; drawing; uniting by fusion.- In a machine for making flexible corrugated tubes, a strip b is fed from a reel a through a bending throat and die c, d and rollers e position the tube whilst the seam is closed by a welding burner f. Rollers g deliver the tube to the corrugating position. The corrugating tool comprises helically arranged balls on a mandrel i rotated by an electromotor m. In operation, the mandrel is drawn in the direction of the arrow by the moving tube, and the motor is switched on, by the carriage C striking a switch l<1>. The tool is then screwed along the tube until the carriage strikes a switch l to stop the motor. In a modification for forming annular corrugations the mandrel is oscillated by magnetic means and the tool comprises balls projected from a casing by a tapered mandrel.
