Abstract

409,920. Machines with travelling or circulating units for winding yarns. REINERS, W., 48, Rheyderstrasse, Gladbach, Munich, Germany. June 16, 1933, No. 17246. Convention date, June 16, 1932. [Class 120 (ii).] In yarn-winding machines wherein the spindle-units travel around the machine during operation, the spindle-driving motors, which may be electric motors, compressed air motors, or hydraulic motors, move with the spindles. Each spindle-unit may be removable from the machine without interfering with the others, and may be provided with a motor or groups of units may be driven by separate motors by means of flexible shafting. In the case of an electric drive, the current may be taken from stationary or travelling conductors, and the conveyer may serve also as a conductor. In the case of fluid motors, an endless conduit travelling with the conveyer serves as the supply. The framework is constructed in sections so that the length of the machine may readily be varied to accommodate different numbers of spindle-units, and so that the path of the spindles may be varied, for example, as in Fig. 16 (not shown), in accordance with the available space. The conveyer may be arranged to travel in a vertical or an inclined path. The spindle-units may be attached to the rim of a rotating circular table as in Fig. 29 (not shown), the motors being connected to slip rings on the table. The winding-mechanism may be of the drum type, with split drum, grooved drum, or rotating wing-guide traverse mechanism, of the cross-winding type with positively driven spindles, or of the weftwinding type with vertical spindles. A drum winding-machine is shown in plan in Fig. 2, the winding-units comprising a carriage 15 with a depending arm 19, Fig. 3, for the delivery bobbin arranged with guide bowls 18 adapted to engage the framework, the innermost bowl being carried by a spring-controlled lever 39 so that it may be moved from the framework to permit ready removal of the unit. Cables 21, which serve as electric conductors and as conveyers, are carried by insulated wheels 36, 37, and current is supplied thereto by brush contacts 52 and fed to the units by wires passing through brackets 38 attached to the carriage 15. The wheels 36, 37 are notched at 38<a> to engage with the brackets 38, one of the shafts which carry the wheels being driven by an electric motor 42 through worm gear 46, 47. Detectors 49, Fig. 3, are adapted upon exhaustion or breakage of an end to open a contact 51 in the supply system of the driving-motors of the units. The traverse drum 4 drives the bobbin through an intermediate roller 1, and is mounted in ball bearings and carries the rotor 62, Fig. 4, of an electric motor, the stator being carried by a fixed hollow shaft 61. A similar arrangement of motor is provided in the case of a wing- guide traverse mechanism, a casing forming the boss of the guide being arranged to carry the rotor and, by means of end-discs, to drive the bobbin, and also in the case of a split drum and a grooved drum. The driving-motor 42 may actuate the conveyers through a cam and ratchet mechanism so that intermittent movement is imparted and periods of stoppage provided as may be necessary or convenient, for example, when there is only one operative who cannot give the necessary attention with the spindle-units in continuous movement, or where the creel bobbins are insufficient for the full travel, or different kinds of yarn are to be wound in succession. As shown in Fig. 19, the conveyers may be mounted in a vertical plane, the spindle units being pivotally mounted and counterweighted to maintain a vertical disposition.
