Abstract

409,194. Rotary cleaning &c. tools. HAMBLETON, F., Grasmere, Rupert Road, Huyton, Lancashire, and McGOWEN, E., 4, Sefton Drive, Liverpool. Sept. 7, 1933, No. 24873. [Class 99 (ii).] A tool for shaping and cleaning stone &c. or for removing incrustation from metal surfaces comprises a rotatable cutting head 1 which is provided with a number of cutting wheels 26 on its end face and is driven by a flexible shaft 8 of stranded steel wire through an intermediate flexible coupling 2. The cutting wheels 26 are rotatably mounted in groups on pins 25 which are located in radial recesses 23 in the main part 22 of the head and are secured in position by a plate 27 clamped to the part 22 by screws 30, the plate 27 having internal and external retaining flanges 28, 29. The flexible coupling 2 comprises two mounting discs 31, 41, the former being secured to the head 22 by a screw 32 and the latter screwing onto the end of a spindle 3 coupled to the shaft 8 by a rigid coupling 7 and each having three spaced bosses 36, 43 respectively, to which an annular disc 38 of leather &c. is secured by screws 39, 45 ; the screw 32 is provided with a spherical head 34 adapted to engage a like recess formed in the end of the spindle 3. The flexible shaft 8 is surrounded by a flexible sheath 12 strengthened by a helically-wound steel strip 65, one end of the sheath being secured to a sleeve 13 of the housing 4 of the spindle 3 and the other to a sleeve 17 an extension 20 of which is freely slidable on a member 10 which is connected to the shaft 8 by a coupling 9 and is provided with a socket 11 for connection to the driving shaft of the prime mover. The housing 4 is formed with a flared end 5, which obscures the back of the head 1, and is provided with a radially-extending handle 6. Specification 106,701, [Class 124], is referred to.
