Abstract
409,188. Anti-aircraft gun sights. AKT.-GES. C. P. GOERZ, OPTISCHE ANSTALT, Pressburg, Bratislava, Czecho-Slovakia, and PETSCHENIG, K., 5, Sonnleithnergasse, Vienna. Aug. 22,1933, No. 23365. [Class 92 (ii).] Relates to ring sights B, shown in plan, which are maintained horizontal during the elevation of the gun g, the radius of the ring corresponding to the estimated velocity of the target and the distance of the centre M of the ring from the lower sighting mark K being adjusted in accordance with the mean velocity of the projectile dependent on the range. According to the invention, a known form of adjustable ring sight in the form of an iris diaphragm is horizontally pivoted at 2 on a sight carrier 1 and kept horizontal by linkage 4, 5, connected to a fixed arm 6 on the gun carriage. Further, the ring 3<a> of the diaphragm is adjusted to vary the radius of the ring to suit a target velocity scale, and the sighting mark K is adjustable along the sight-bar to suit the mean projectile velocity. To prevent the target being obscured by the diaphragm, the sight line is displaced laterally by an optical device 8 comprising an opaque mirror 9<b> and a transparent mirror 9<a>, the device being horizontally pivoted in a member 10 slidable in a slot x in the sight-bar and controlled by a rod 11. The slot x is shaped to give the adjustment for tangent angle of elevation dependent on the range and angle of site of the target. When the ring B is used as a backsight instead of a foresight as shown, the optical device 8 can be dispensed with. In carrying out the invention in connection with telescopic sights, a projection lens as described in Specification 399,751, [Group XX], is employed.
